De waterzuiveringsproducten van Akzo Nobel voldoen aan de verscherpte eisen van het
certificatie- en keuringsinstituut Kiwa N.V. die in mei 2007 van kracht worden. Dit is
overigens op dit moment reeds zo. Akzo Nobel kwalificeert zich hier opnieuw als een
leverancier die zich in de bovenkant van de markt beweegt voor wat betreft kwaliteitseisen
zoals deze zich maatschappelijk ontwikkelen.

Akzo Nobel opens new plant in Skoghall

Skoghall, Sweden, 2005-12-15. On December 15, Akzo Nobel will open one of the most modern factories for water treatment chemicals in Europe in Skoghall, close to Karlstad. The new plant will have an annual production of 35 000 tons of ferric chlorides.

Problem of harmful micropollutants originating from chlorine plants is limited

There is no general problem in the Netherlands with so-called PBT (persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic) substances in the chlorine production cycle, nor with substances occurring in chlorine products. However, in a limited number of cases, chlorinated micropollutants have been found that, for the most part, were present in low concentrations. This was revealed in a thorough study conducted by the Institute of Environmental Studies of the Free University of Amsterdam.

Successful start-up pilot hydrogen power plant

Amersfoort/Arnhem, January 14, 2005 NedStack Fuel Cell Technology and Akzo Nobel Base Chemicals report successful start-up and operation of a PEM fuel cell system in Akzo Nobel’s chlorine electrolysis pilot plant. Measured electric efficiency of the fuel cells in this “real life” condition is 61,8%. Installation and operation of the pilot-plant is the first step in the development of a 50 MW fuel cell power plant. The pilot plant will be located in Rotterdam, the largest industrial area in the Netherlands.

Western European chlorine production up on same period last year

Brussels, December 16, 2004 – Monthly Western European chlorine production in November (820,405 tonnes) was up 5.5% on the same period last year (777,458 tonnes).  Daily production rose slightly by 1.2% from 27,023 tonnes in October to 27,347 tonnes in November.

AMERSFOORT December 9, 2004 – With champagne, music, light and firework the building of the new office of Akzo Nobel in Amersfoort has officially started. As of November 2006 the 400 employees of the chemical companies of Akzo Nobel, will be located in the new building. The building plan comprises two office blocks, an hotel and a double underground parking areas.

Akzo Nobel closes down chlorine production in Bohus (Sweden)

Bohus/Amersfoort, September 14th 2004  – Akzo Nobel has decided to stop production of chlorine at the Bohus site (Sweden) as of the end of 2005. The closure will affect about 150 jobs on the site. Akzo Nobel will negotiate the reduction of the workforce with labor unions.

Brussels supports end of chlorine transports

Arnhem/The Hague, June 23, 2004 – The European Commission has backed Dutch plans
to cease chlorine transport by rail in the Netherlands. The support from the EU means that
the government in the Netherlands will subsidize the relocation of chlorine plants. This
approval now makes it possible for Akzo Nobel to start its planned construction of plants
for chlorine activities in Delfzijl.
