Chlorine is supplied to customers via pipelines. They use chlorine as a raw or auxiliary material for a large number of products such as toothpaste, adhesive tape, rainproof clothing, salad dressing and dashboard components. Caustic soda is delivered to the customer by pipeline, tanker truck or ship. Hydrogen is only transported by pipeline or in special cylinders. Caustic soda is, for example, applied in water softening and bleaching lye in the disinfection of swimming pool and drinking water.
Process:
Salt is the raw material for chlorine production. The electric current in electrolysis cells converts brine (salt dissolved in water) into chlorine, caustic soda, and hydrogen.
