"In my job you never have a dull moment," says Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator Ed Rozema. "Organizations and care systems are dynamic. So they change all the time, and in the field of Occupational Health and Safety you are never finished. Yet my goal is unchanging: People should be able to do their jobs safe and sound. It's a goal I want to impress on everyone on this site."
Ed has been working in his present field since 1990, joining Akzo Nobel in 2003. He completed a variety of courses, including one on HSE Management and Occupational Hygiene. His present activities include the production of safety reports, HSE plans, risk surveys and evaluations, and workplace studies.
"As Occupational Safety and Health Coordinator you translate the legal rules to match the situation you find. You keep management informed, and advise and motivate the people on the floor. All organizations on our site can take their problems to me. In addition, I have a coordinating role in the field of safety. The fun thing about my job is that every day I meet with many different operations and people. I try to align the individual plants' policies where feasible. Right now, for instance, we are working to sort of standardize the description of process incidents. In ways such as this we jointly seek to make improvements in the field of safety."
